What DJ Kanoya Productions is all about

The DJ
Justin Kanoya, who has had a lifelong passion for music, began mobile DJing in 1990. That’s when he was hired to work for TKO DJs in St. Louis, Mo. The company was DJing Justin’s high school homecoming, and managers on-site realized there was something special about a 15-year-old kid who preferred working a crowd into a frenzy than dancing cheek to cheek with his date.

“That homecoming dance was my first real date, I didn’t really know what to do or how to act,” he says. “So I just did what I always did at school dances … act crazy and dance with everyone. My date wasn’t too happy with that.”

But TKO managers were impressed and asked Justin to interview for a DJ position. During his two years with TKO, Justin DJ’d school functions, weddings, country club events and private house parties all around St. Louis County. In college, Justin was the house DJ in the Student Union Building at Truman State University and hosted his own evening radio program on KNEU, “The Swinging Velveeta Lounge.”

Recently, Justin has been working for the very well respected San Diego DJ company, Mobile Dance Party. While DJing for them, Justin has traveled all over San Diego, working private parties at the Hotel del Coronado, San Diego Marriott, Bahia, Rancho Benardo Inn and more. Justin also had a short stint DJing at the Tavern on the Beach in Pacific Beach, Calif.

Justin has traveled around the U.S. and Japan performing the art of taiko drumming since 1986. He is a public relations professional with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism.
